Today was the day we would get the chicks to foster. So of course this is the first thing the kids said to us when we came down this morning. And no, I hadn't heard from our neighbor yet as to when we could pick up the chicks. But every few minutes the kids would ask just to be sure!

We did our usual morning walk with Pip. Both girls came on the walk this morning. It was so nice out already! So when we got back we made breakfast for everyone and set up out on the deck today. We spent all day out there. JP working in the shade on the adirondack chairs (where the outdoor sectional would be!) and me and the girls at the table. I had bought them each a book of mazes for a rainy day but as it was theme Thursday and I hadn't planned a theme out today, I gave the girls their books. They sat and did the whole book before going off on their bikes with the neighborhood kids. Around 1:00 we got word that the chicks were available for pick up. This worked out because we had to go out to pick up Naomi's school stuff at 1 anyway. Her teacher went in to school and packed up each child's belongings that had been abruptly left behind when school closed in March. So we went out and picked up her bag of stuff and dropped off a teacher gift for her teacher. Hopefully she gets it! And then we headed over to pick up the chicks. The kids got to pick out the three chicks they wanted to raise. And when I asked our neighbor when we should bring them back, he said, " you can keep them, this way you'll get going on building your own coop and get your chickens started." I've been talking about raising chickens for quite some time now and I do want to be able to have fresh eggs, but I'm just not sure everyone at the house here is on board with the idea of having another thing to take care of! So we'll see how this fostering goes and if it leads us to us actually building or buying a coop! We need to get permission from the board of health and I'm not sure how that all works with the town hall closed. I emailed the director of the board of health so we'll see if he gets back to us.

We then went home and the kids proceeded to play with the chicks all the rest of the day on the deck. We introduced Pippin to the chicks and he was more interested in their food. He sniffed each one and stared at it a bit, and then proceeded to eat their food. So we had to keep an eye on him! We walked Pip after 'work' and then JP got the grill going. We ate out on the deck this evening. The first of the season. It was so nice, cool, but nice! While we were eating we brainstormed a list of names for the chicks. We landed on Hei Hei, (Poison) Ivy & Harly (Quinn). Then we walked Pip again as it was so nice out! After our walk the girls wanted the chicks to sleep in their room with them, so they are both sleeping in Naomi's room, with the chicks. Lets see how this goes.
JP and I are on to Harry Potter 6 - The half blood Prince. One of my favorites!! Oh and
Harry Potter chapter 6 is out for you to watch/listen to! It's been really fun listening to each chapter with the actors reading it! The kids have enjoyed it too!
