Quarantine Day 60: 2 Months!

Today Juliet woke up around 3am and came into our room saying she was scared. So she slept on the floor of our room the rest of the morning. She was still the first one up and playing downstairs when JP went down to make breakfast. Naomi and I rolled out of bed around 8:30. By the time she got downstairs it was time for her to do her google meet class. I made her breakfast and then JP and I walked Pip. It was sunny and warm this morning. When we got back I made breakfast and sat on the front porch in the sun eating.

After breakfast Naomi did her school work, Juliet was playing a phonics game on the iPad, JP was working at the kitchen table and I headed into Needham to pick up my desktop computer and bring it home to use for the design work I need to do for graduation. The laptop screen is just too small! So I headed in, unplugged it, and headed home. The kids went outside meanwhile and played in the neighborhood. When I got home I went and picked up Naomi, she was at the Roger's house playing with their chicks and on their lawn. We had (another) conversation about not being close to friends, not touching things that other people touched, etc. Naomi was quite for most of the time in the car and was very apologetic.

I got home and set up the computer and ugh, I couldn't get on our home network. They had locked it down so it would only work in the building at school. SO I called the tech person and they said that I had to bring it back and they would fix it so I could use it. Ugh. Why didn't the principal know this before letting me take it?

Naomi had gone outside to play again, this time saying she would play across the street from her friends. I asked Juliet if she wanted to take a drive with me, and so her and I set off to Needham to drop off my computer. We listened to some story podcasts the whole ride. I was thinking she might nap, but no such luck. I was in and out once I got to school and Juliet stayed in the car the whole time. When I came out, I found her playing in the front seat 'driving' the car!

When we got home, Juliet wanted to make a fort because Naomi was making a fort outside with the neighborhood kids. At first Juliet wanted to make a fort outside in our yard but then decided a couch fort would work. So instead of getting any work done, I helped Juliet make a fort in the living room out of the couch and many blankets. Once the fort was complete we got in and Juliet made lunch and ice cream for us. Then Naomi came home and played in the fort for a bit with us too. She was home because the neighborhood kids collided on their bikes and one of them got hurt. I asked if a parent was there and she said yes. I texted the parent making sure the kid was ok, turns out they were at the doctor and the child has a broken and displaced clavicle! Ugh, poor kiddo!

After for time I went into the garage and did another coat of teak oil on the adirondack chairs. Juliet came into the garage and 'helped' for a bit, then painted the garage walls with water she collected from the downpour outside! I wore the intense filter mask as the last few times after doing the oil I felt a bit light headed. I think this helped!

I came in and cleaned up and then did a little work (finally) while JP made dinner and the kids played nicely together upstairs. Turns out they were doing some learning games on the computer in the office.  Juliet came down and helped JP cook dinner. Breakfast for dinner, Juliet's favorite.

Then it was time to get ready for bed, read books and go to sleep, you know, the usual bed time routine. I came downstairs and JP and I worked while we watched Chamber of Secrets. I have a bunch of design work to do for the end of the year and a final project for a class I'm taking on top of teaching! So the next few weeks will be busy. I got a draft done of the Senior Award Ceremony, that took an hour and a half, and I think I've got my final project done for my class. I'm not sure it meets the criteria exactly but hopefully they'll be understanding with the remote learning!

OK its almost midnight and I have to teach tomorrow and possibly go back to NHS and pick up my desktop as its all set now!

Quarantine Day 24: Technology, Fixing Old Things, Long Walks, Family Game Night

Charles River by our old house! Sunday. This morning the kids got up before us and headed downstairs to watch some Batman cartoon episodes from the 90s that JP got for them. Naomi (& Juliet sort of) has been reading the three Batman comics that we got from Park Street Books that have Spanish on the sides and in some of the frames. One of the great things about technology, or at least the technology in our house, is that we can cast stuff from our phone to the TV in the family room and our bedroom. So while JP and I were just getting up and dressed, he cast the Sunday school stream from the temple. This of course interrupted the Batman cartoon. I peaked my head out the bedroom door and heard..."but we were watching Batman!" The Sunday school songs and chat from the Rabbi's today was about Passover as it is this coming Wednesday evening. After the morning service 45 minutes later there was a zoom session with the Rabbi's to have more of a conversation and so...

Quarantine Day 69: meetings, biking, digging for fossils

Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.

Quarantine Day 31: More landscaping and Easter Sunday

Signs of spring Easter Sunday. This morning the kids got up at the same time, around 7:30 and they went down and watched some TV and played some video games. I got up and made some breakfast for the gang and then we headed outside. It was almost 60 degrees today. The girls helped me move some of the plants around in our front flower beds. We moved 2 daisy plants, 2 echinacea plants, and 3 day lilies. The side of the house had nothing in the beds there, so we moved 5 plants there. Hopefully the plants make it!!! Then we did a general clean up of the beds. Juliet got a bit bored and went and helped JP dig out weeds for a bit. Then they went and practiced riding bikes. Juliet is a bit timid on her bike with training wheels but she took the bike for a spin around the neighborhood for a bit. Naomi seeing her decided she wanted to ride for a bit too, so she went off and rode her bike around the neighborhood chasing Jules. She's' still learning how to use the gears on her new bike...
