Quarantine Day 57: Dunkin' Donuts, Coloring, Going to NHS & Nature Documentaries

TGIF! Today the girls got up and got right to work again. Naomi on her google classroom and then on to learning coding with a kids program for extra work just because. And Juliet doing work on the iPad learning phonics and spelling and then on to doing online puzzles!

After a shower (its been a few days!) I went downstairs to walk Pip and JP ran out to the ATM to get money for our cleaning lady to support her during this time of shut down. He also stopped at Dunkin' to get a treat for us for breakfast. It's a bit weird still after 57 days, to have to decontaminate anything that we go out and buy, which has not been much for us besides groceries! We ate breakfast on the front porch in the sun, like we have been doing for the last week, but this morning it was quite chilly and required blankets while we sat!

So we went inside and JP went up to work in the office and the girls and I worked in the living room. Juliet and I worked on adding color and detail to our drawings in our field notebooks for our Arctic and Antarctic animals while Naomi worked on coloring in our USA tablecloth map from our second ever theme Thursday! We still have not completed it! So after Juliet and I were done with our notebooks, we went over and helped her color in more states. All the while I was having drop in office hours for students that needed help, so google meet was open just incase anyone showed up - which they didn't. Once it was 11:30 I left to go to Needham and the kids continued to play in the living room with legos until the iPad was more appealing. JP came down and made them lunch and then they put on a Disneynature documentary on Penguins to go along with our theme yesterday. And then they watched the Disneynature Dolphins documentary, twice! At least it is educational! Plus the weather wasn't a great outside day.

It was a bit weird going to work today. I had a mask on and the doors were propped open as I approached the building. I spoke with the principal, who was at the front desk greeting folks, about what graduation printing might look like and what the summer may hold. If restrictions are relaxed, then I am going to have to go in and do my summer printing. It is a bit complicated though, as I need to hire student helpers, and the sale of the 1400 planners typically pays for the student salaries over the summer. If we are not going back to school like normal in the fall, then there will not be a need or the planners that we usually make. If we can't sell the planners, then we can't pay the kids. So we need to figure out something here and decide what is best financially for the school and what makes sense for the needs of the students in terms of printing! Anyway, the whole reason for going in to work today was to get files off of the server for graduation and summer design work that I can then do at home. It took WAY longer than I thought to transfer the files. I took the necessary files on an external hard drive but I left the server transferring files to my google drive overnight. We'll see how much gets transferred before the machine goes to sleep!

On my way home I stopped in to Ace to get more teak oil for the furniture that I'm refinishing, but they were out. I picked up some mulch for JP for his plants, and then I decided to pop in to Ann & Hope to see if they had teak oil. They too did not. I think I'm going to have to order it online or maybe check home depot! I'm so close to being done with our adirondack chairs. But then I'd like to do the other deck furniture too as the adirondack chairs are coming out so nice! The poor furniture has been neglected for many years and is quite dry, that's why we need so much darn oil!

When I got home the kids were watching the dolphin documentary and I had a meeting with a colleague to plan a lesson for next week. I also noticed a nice flower arrangement on the counter as I walked in with a note with my name. It was from our cleaning lady as a "Happy Mother's Day and Thank you!" She's so great! As I was on the call JP took the girls to a birthday parade for one of the girls in Naomi's class. By the time I had finished my meeting, the girls had moved on to watching a Disneynature documentary on Bears! Yes they came back in and put the tv back on to watch another documentary! But it was dinner time and so we had to get that going. I had told Juliet that she had to make dinner tonight because the last 2 maybe 3 nights she has snubbed her nose up at dinner and did not eat much. So she had to make something that she would eat. And of course, it was mac n cheese. So she helped with pouring the noodles into the pot and then mixing up the cheese, milk and butter. We also had apple slices and peanut butter with it. We finished watching the documentary on Bears while eating dinner. And it turns out that Juliet didn't eat much of the mac n cheese either! Not sure what is going on with her, but when she found out that she couldn't have ice cream with the rest of us because she hadn't finished her dinner, she sure ate that mac n cheese quickly!

As the kids were into the documentaries, there are maybe 8 of them, we decided that if they brushed and got in PJ's, we could watch one more in Mom and Dad's bed then go right to sleep. As dad had to work tonight, there was plenty of room for me and the girls to snuggle and watch one on animals from China. I think Juliet was getting bored towards the end there, but we made it and the girls got right into bed. Well sleeping bags on Naomi's floor. Its now 9:45 as I write this and they are still awake talking to each other! Hopefully they'll go to sleep soon and sleep in tomorrow!! JP is still working right now too. Hopefully he'll finish up soon and get some sleep as well!

Quarantine Day 24: Technology, Fixing Old Things, Long Walks, Family Game Night

Charles River by our old house! Sunday. This morning the kids got up before us and headed downstairs to watch some Batman cartoon episodes from the 90s that JP got for them. Naomi (& Juliet sort of) has been reading the three Batman comics that we got from Park Street Books that have Spanish on the sides and in some of the frames. One of the great things about technology, or at least the technology in our house, is that we can cast stuff from our phone to the TV in the family room and our bedroom. So while JP and I were just getting up and dressed, he cast the Sunday school stream from the temple. This of course interrupted the Batman cartoon. I peaked my head out the bedroom door and heard..."but we were watching Batman!" The Sunday school songs and chat from the Rabbi's today was about Passover as it is this coming Wednesday evening. After the morning service 45 minutes later there was a zoom session with the Rabbi's to have more of a conversation and so...

Quarantine Day 69: meetings, biking, digging for fossils

Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.

Quarantine Day 31: More landscaping and Easter Sunday

Signs of spring Easter Sunday. This morning the kids got up at the same time, around 7:30 and they went down and watched some TV and played some video games. I got up and made some breakfast for the gang and then we headed outside. It was almost 60 degrees today. The girls helped me move some of the plants around in our front flower beds. We moved 2 daisy plants, 2 echinacea plants, and 3 day lilies. The side of the house had nothing in the beds there, so we moved 5 plants there. Hopefully the plants make it!!! Then we did a general clean up of the beds. Juliet got a bit bored and went and helped JP dig out weeds for a bit. Then they went and practiced riding bikes. Juliet is a bit timid on her bike with training wheels but she took the bike for a spin around the neighborhood for a bit. Naomi seeing her decided she wanted to ride for a bit too, so she went off and rode her bike around the neighborhood chasing Jules. She's' still learning how to use the gears on her new bike...
