Quarantine Day 61: Meets, Zooms & Meetings

Tuesday, a teaching day for mom, a work day for dad, a zoom day for Juliet and a meet day for Naomi. This morning I was up and at 'em rather early. My alarm is set for 7:30 but I was up at 7 - I had to pee! (TMI?) I showered and got dressed and headed downstairs and found Juliet down there looking at old photos on the iPad. Her morning routine. I got Pip and walked him and as I was coming back towards the house when the kid came running down the street towards me yelling something. It turns out Naomi had a tick behind her ear. So we went inside and she ended up taking it out herself. She got the whole tick and later in the day it looked fine.

After we got settled and had breakfast, everyone dispersed into their separate corner of the house. Naomi to the family room to do her google meet, Juliet to her room to do her zoom, JP to the office and I sat in the living room to teach my first class. It seems that whenever I'm teaching the dog feels the need to bark his head off. And right on schedule, as soon as we all were in our meetings & classes Pip decided to bark his head off.

After our morning classes I decided to run to Needham to pick up my computer which is now ready for me to use at home. So Juliet and I took a drive. Once we got to Needham, she put on her mask and didn't touch anything when she came inside the school with me. We were in and out. She liked driving in the car the other day because we listened to a bunch of story podcasts from Circle Round. We should put them on more often I guess! I thought we timed it pretty good because I had a class that started at 1:40 and well we got home at 1:45. I ran in the house and logged in to the class and they were all making fun of me for being late to my own class. All good natured of course. Juliet was interested in talking to me during the afternoon classes, or playing legos with Naomi right next to me, rather loudly. Again, always when I have a class, does it seem that the kids are extra loud or needy!

Once my classes were over the kids wanted nothing to do with me.

JP finished work early so we went for a walk and got out in the sun. It was actually a bit chilly in the sun! Juliet was riding her bike with the neighborhood kids, first the two wheeler, then the bike with training wheels. Naomi then had her Spanish tutor where she played guess who with her teacher. While every kid was occupied I went and finished oiling the Adirondack chairs. I think this is the final coat and after that they're good to go!!! They are looking pretty good if I do say so myself! Next up the deck table and chairs!

Juliet had a virtual play date this afternoon with her friend from Woodside. She was so excited about this and ever since she woke up every 10 or 20 minutes she asked me if it was time for her play date. It was not time for her playdate. And she was over the moon. I think she really needed this. Her virtual play date over google meet was 2 hours! Both kids had so much fun. It was so cute how much they missed each other.

I did a bit of work on the Needham Senior awards program while JP got dinner ready and the kids were again occupied.

After dinner we played games. JP and Juliet played guess who and then battleship while Naomi and I played Dragonwood. The evening ended in tears for Naomi because she didn't win and I got the dragons. So we headed up to bed.

JP spent the rest of the evening watching Phish's Dinner and a Movie show while I worked some more on the senior award designs, specifically the  certificates. This took 2 hours to do. And honestly it was great to be able to do it uninterrupted. I typically do the graduation work during a class a few minutes here and there or in between classes a few at a time. Being able to sit down and get it out in one pass was nice. And it makes it easier for me to track the amount of time that I spend on design work too! I'm keeping track of it to charge design time as they are going to give out the programs this year digitally.

We headed up to bed after the Phish show and then I had to write this blog post, so we turned on movie 3 of our Harry Potter Marathon - Prisoner of Azkaban!  Oh and by the way chapter 3 of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is out if you want to listen/watch it. Eddy Redmayne (Newt Scamander) reads it!

Quarantine Day 24: Technology, Fixing Old Things, Long Walks, Family Game Night

Charles River by our old house! Sunday. This morning the kids got up before us and headed downstairs to watch some Batman cartoon episodes from the 90s that JP got for them. Naomi (& Juliet sort of) has been reading the three Batman comics that we got from Park Street Books that have Spanish on the sides and in some of the frames. One of the great things about technology, or at least the technology in our house, is that we can cast stuff from our phone to the TV in the family room and our bedroom. So while JP and I were just getting up and dressed, he cast the Sunday school stream from the temple. This of course interrupted the Batman cartoon. I peaked my head out the bedroom door and heard..."but we were watching Batman!" The Sunday school songs and chat from the Rabbi's today was about Passover as it is this coming Wednesday evening. After the morning service 45 minutes later there was a zoom session with the Rabbi's to have more of a conversation and so...

Quarantine Day 69: meetings, biking, digging for fossils

Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.

Quarantine Day 31: More landscaping and Easter Sunday

Signs of spring Easter Sunday. This morning the kids got up at the same time, around 7:30 and they went down and watched some TV and played some video games. I got up and made some breakfast for the gang and then we headed outside. It was almost 60 degrees today. The girls helped me move some of the plants around in our front flower beds. We moved 2 daisy plants, 2 echinacea plants, and 3 day lilies. The side of the house had nothing in the beds there, so we moved 5 plants there. Hopefully the plants make it!!! Then we did a general clean up of the beds. Juliet got a bit bored and went and helped JP dig out weeds for a bit. Then they went and practiced riding bikes. Juliet is a bit timid on her bike with training wheels but she took the bike for a spin around the neighborhood for a bit. Naomi seeing her decided she wanted to ride for a bit too, so she went off and rode her bike around the neighborhood chasing Jules. She's' still learning how to use the gears on her new bike...
