Quarantine Day 54: Cinco de Mayo, A Visit From Grammy, & Dinner Rolls

Tuesday, Cinco De Mayo! Today Naomi had her class and I had to teach and JP had to work and Juliet just hung out.

When I went downstairs I found Juliet already down looking at photos on the iPad. Naomi was doing her work in the office. And I went to walk Pip. When I went to feed him I noticed his bowl was full of ants! And there were more ants all around the kitchen! Little bitty ants! I freaked out as this was not part of the plan for the day! I went up to have JP help and figure out what we should do, but he was busy with work already and couldn't help! So I found the ant spray and sprayed around the kitchen and mudroom. I then made the girls waffles for breakfast. Naomi hopped on to her google meet and Juliet hopped on to youtube to see her lessons that day. Then it was time for me to teach.

It seems that when I'm teaching on google meet or when JP is on a call Pippin decides it is a good time to bark at everything. I had to stop multiple classes to let him out, then let him in, then let him back out. It was kind of annoying! I told him next time Nana was around we're sending him down to the cape with her!

Teaching when it is nice outside is hard for the kids. It seems that the students today were meh and not interested in saying much. I try to get them chatting but as we're all alone in our own space its easy to mute the mic and just listen. I made the kids show me their faces and have their video on, as most of them turn it off. I did this last week, but reminded them again this week to have it on. Oh, something I overheard Naomi's teacher say on their google meet, was that they had to have their clothes on and not be watching tv while 'in class.' I thought that was funny that she had to remind them. I guess one kid showed up without a shirt on and one had a tv on in his room in the background!

The kids played all day outside on their bikes and scooters and roller racers. In the afternoon Grammy came over to have a socially distanced visit! She brought us some more flour! Juliet showed her how she rides a two wheeler and Naomi and her chatted about the stuffies. JP and I were crazy busy with work so we missed our on her visit.

We've been having trouble with our bread machine. The last few times I've used it the bread did not rise. So last night I decided to try to make some dinner rolls not using the bread machine. They came out awesome and were a hit at dinner. But you can't really compete with fresh rolls - zucchini boats and salad are a far second to them! As it was cinco de Mayo, JP whipped up some spicy margaritas to go with dinner.

After dinner I had a school committee meeting and so JP was on bedtime duty. It sounded like they were having WAY more fun than me at the school committee meeting. By the time he got the kids to bed it was after 9 and my meeting was no where near being done, but I wasn't feeling that great. I don't think dinner and the margaritas were sitting well with me. So I left the meeting and went to bed. JP stayed up watching the Phish concert as he does every Tuesday and ended up falling asleep on the couch! He woke up around 2:30 and came up to bed!

Charles River by our old house! Sunday. This morning the kids got up before us and headed downstairs to watch some Batman cartoon episodes from the 90s that JP got for them. Naomi (& Juliet sort of) has been reading the three Batman comics that we got from Park Street Books that have Spanish on the sides and in some of the frames. One of the great things about technology, or at least the technology in our house, is that we can cast stuff from our phone to the TV in the family room and our bedroom. So while JP and I were just getting up and dressed, he cast the Sunday school stream from the temple. This of course interrupted the Batman cartoon. I peaked my head out the bedroom door and heard..."but we were watching Batman!" The Sunday school songs and chat from the Rabbi's today was about Passover as it is this coming Wednesday evening. After the morning service 45 minutes later there was a zoom session with the Rabbi's to have more of a conversation and so...

Quarantine Day 69: meetings, biking, digging for fossils

Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.

Quarantine Day 31: More landscaping and Easter Sunday

Signs of spring Easter Sunday. This morning the kids got up at the same time, around 7:30 and they went down and watched some TV and played some video games. I got up and made some breakfast for the gang and then we headed outside. It was almost 60 degrees today. The girls helped me move some of the plants around in our front flower beds. We moved 2 daisy plants, 2 echinacea plants, and 3 day lilies. The side of the house had nothing in the beds there, so we moved 5 plants there. Hopefully the plants make it!!! Then we did a general clean up of the beds. Juliet got a bit bored and went and helped JP dig out weeds for a bit. Then they went and practiced riding bikes. Juliet is a bit timid on her bike with training wheels but she took the bike for a spin around the neighborhood for a bit. Naomi seeing her decided she wanted to ride for a bit too, so she went off and rode her bike around the neighborhood chasing Jules. She's' still learning how to use the gears on her new bike...
