Quarantine Day 40: Magic Kingdom

Today we should be in Magic Kingdom. We got great fast passes. For Dwarf Mine Train, Space Mountain and we had dinner reservations at Belle's Castle for 6:20pm. Dinner tonight is going to be way less impressive than dinner in a castle.

We came downstairs to see Juliet had been up for a while making artwork! Her best learning time is 6:00 am - 7:00 am. That's not usually a good time for the rest of us though....

As it is Tuesday, I had classes all day. Naomi had her class this morning and then her and Juliet played with playdoh while I had my morning classes. They also created a bunch of felt snail ornaments that Sundie dropped of yesterday. Thanks Sundie! JP made lunch for the kids and then he and I worked out in the basement. Being down there makes me want to finish it but not sure how we'd do that with our current social distancing. I hear companies are chomping at the bit to get work, so maybe it would be cheaper?!

We learned today during lunch that schools would not be back in session this school year. The governor announced it at his press conference this afternoon. I felt a bit of relief knowing that it was settled and I can plan for my classes for the rest of the year in this space. I also am excited as it gives me more time to rest and heal from surgery before going back to the 'rat race.' I'm sad for the kids as I know they miss their friends and social interaction! But I'm also thinking that we're lucky to get to spend this much time together with the kids. I feel like we never see them during the week because we're all so busy. Life has slowed down so much and we've gotten to really spend quality time with the kids. Juliet probably won't remember but Naomi will hopefully remember this time when she is older.

After lunch I had 2 more classes. Naomi worked on her school work in the office and did many extra math and science activities that they had put up for extra work if she wanted. Juliet hung out in the basement with me while I held my two afternoon classes and Dad worked in the kitchen. So we're mixing it up a bit with our work stations!

Juliet decided to go swim in the resort pool this afternoon, they were playing Frozen 2 and she was very excited about it. Naomi wasn't really interested in going in the pool, which is odd, she loves swimming, but she had her tutoring session later in the afternoon which she was excited for.

Dad whipped up a nice one pot dinner with rice and sausage and we played Disney's I Spy card game at dinner. It was fun for the kids to see the different Disney scenes even though we couldn't be there this week. We should've been dining at the Be Our Guest (Belle's Castle) restaurant, but this meal was just as good and the company couldn't have been better!

I had to pop off to a school committee meeting after dinner about the budget - not as exciting as reading books with the kids. JP read books with the kids, they choose their felt books that we got them for our trip to Seattle a few years ago, and they watched a few songs from Phish's live show this evening (It's Tuesday - Phish's Dinner and a movie! JP was at this show this week!!)  And then they were off to bed with a few hugs to mom during her meeting!

Tomorrow we'll be traveling around the world at Epcot... or we should be....

Quarantine Day 24: Technology, Fixing Old Things, Long Walks, Family Game Night

Charles River by our old house! Sunday. This morning the kids got up before us and headed downstairs to watch some Batman cartoon episodes from the 90s that JP got for them. Naomi (& Juliet sort of) has been reading the three Batman comics that we got from Park Street Books that have Spanish on the sides and in some of the frames. One of the great things about technology, or at least the technology in our house, is that we can cast stuff from our phone to the TV in the family room and our bedroom. So while JP and I were just getting up and dressed, he cast the Sunday school stream from the temple. This of course interrupted the Batman cartoon. I peaked my head out the bedroom door and heard..."but we were watching Batman!" The Sunday school songs and chat from the Rabbi's today was about Passover as it is this coming Wednesday evening. After the morning service 45 minutes later there was a zoom session with the Rabbi's to have more of a conversation and so...

Quarantine Day 69: meetings, biking, digging for fossils

Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.

Quarantine Day 31: More landscaping and Easter Sunday

Signs of spring Easter Sunday. This morning the kids got up at the same time, around 7:30 and they went down and watched some TV and played some video games. I got up and made some breakfast for the gang and then we headed outside. It was almost 60 degrees today. The girls helped me move some of the plants around in our front flower beds. We moved 2 daisy plants, 2 echinacea plants, and 3 day lilies. The side of the house had nothing in the beds there, so we moved 5 plants there. Hopefully the plants make it!!! Then we did a general clean up of the beds. Juliet got a bit bored and went and helped JP dig out weeds for a bit. Then they went and practiced riding bikes. Juliet is a bit timid on her bike with training wheels but she took the bike for a spin around the neighborhood for a bit. Naomi seeing her decided she wanted to ride for a bit too, so she went off and rode her bike around the neighborhood chasing Jules. She's' still learning how to use the gears on her new bike...
