Quarantine Day 36: Fancy Friday

Fancy Friday!
Friday's used to be a relief from the work week, excited for the weekend, but now they're just another day really. To mix it up we had 'Fancy Friday' at our house where the kids and I dressed up fancy! The girls put on dresses and their 'good jewelry' and I put on a dress and some fun earrings and did my hair up fancy. We wore our fancy outfits all day! In the morning we made waffles in our fancy outfits. The kids played with their stuffies in their fancy outfits. We walked the dog in our fancy outfits.

Naomi did her daily work, which takes her all of 30 minutes to do. And then her and Juliet played nicely together all day. While they were playing I did some grading and checking in with some students, teachers and the NHS principal - in my fancy outfit of course!

After that I just didn't feel like doing anything, it was one of those days. I felt like eating chocolate and taking a nap for the rest of the day. The kids just wanted to watch TV after a while and we all just vegged. JP finally got us all up and out the door to walk the dog to get us out in the fresh air and moving. I think we're all feeling a bit blah at this point. We've been at our house together for 36 days. And in any other circumstance I think I'd be excited about it. There are so many house projects I'd like to do, but we can't go to the store to get materials. There are many art projects that I want to do but finding the time to myself has been impossible. It seems that we are fortunate enough to have this time to be together to decompress and spend time with family, but the kids sometimes just want to play on their own, and some of the family stuff we never get to do, we've been doing for 36 days! We play games at lunch almost every day, and game night used to be a novelty! We've done every puzzle we have in the closet at least once and played almost every game we have at least twice. Which is great! But I think some of this might be getting old for the kids. So JP and I have been curating a list of classic movies to show them a couple of times a week in the evening. Some of our favorites as kids, some of them hold up and some are pretty dated, but they love watching them. The theme Thursdays are a good way to mix up the week but I can't handle more than once a week for that with work and all.

As it is Friday of the beginning of April vacation week, we were supposed to be flying out to Florida to Disney World tomorrow morning. The kids have known for a while now that we are not going due to COVID-19 and quarantine. Disney World is closed so we couldn't even go if we wanted to! They have been such great sports about it though. I think I'm more devastated than them. Mostly because I put a lot of work and research into our trip, the plan, the fast passes, our matching outfits! JP did all the leg work on finding the best place to stay and getting our flight. So this evening the kids packed a bag of clothes before they went to bed for their 'trip.' They said that we'll pretend to go to Disney this whole week. So tomorrow we're going to 'fly' to Disney. Juliet already said she wanted to be the pilot and found an empty cardboard box that is going to be the plane. So on top of this crazy week we are going to pretend that we are visiting each Disney park as if we were going there. This was all the kids idea. For now they are having a sleepover in the family room with their packed bags, gearing up for tomorrow!

Quarantine Day 24: Technology, Fixing Old Things, Long Walks, Family Game Night

Charles River by our old house! Sunday. This morning the kids got up before us and headed downstairs to watch some Batman cartoon episodes from the 90s that JP got for them. Naomi (& Juliet sort of) has been reading the three Batman comics that we got from Park Street Books that have Spanish on the sides and in some of the frames. One of the great things about technology, or at least the technology in our house, is that we can cast stuff from our phone to the TV in the family room and our bedroom. So while JP and I were just getting up and dressed, he cast the Sunday school stream from the temple. This of course interrupted the Batman cartoon. I peaked my head out the bedroom door and heard..."but we were watching Batman!" The Sunday school songs and chat from the Rabbi's today was about Passover as it is this coming Wednesday evening. After the morning service 45 minutes later there was a zoom session with the Rabbi's to have more of a conversation and so...

Quarantine Day 69: meetings, biking, digging for fossils

Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.

Quarantine Day 31: More landscaping and Easter Sunday

Signs of spring Easter Sunday. This morning the kids got up at the same time, around 7:30 and they went down and watched some TV and played some video games. I got up and made some breakfast for the gang and then we headed outside. It was almost 60 degrees today. The girls helped me move some of the plants around in our front flower beds. We moved 2 daisy plants, 2 echinacea plants, and 3 day lilies. The side of the house had nothing in the beds there, so we moved 5 plants there. Hopefully the plants make it!!! Then we did a general clean up of the beds. Juliet got a bit bored and went and helped JP dig out weeds for a bit. Then they went and practiced riding bikes. Juliet is a bit timid on her bike with training wheels but she took the bike for a spin around the neighborhood for a bit. Naomi seeing her decided she wanted to ride for a bit too, so she went off and rode her bike around the neighborhood chasing Jules. She's' still learning how to use the gears on her new bike...
