| Looking at the stars through VR goggles |
The kids slept in until after 8am today, which is good because they went to bed after 9 last night!! Passover was so much fun and way too late for them!!
After breakfast Naomi had her virtual meeting with her class and while she was doing work Juliet and I played different games. Mostly the magnet tessellation.

After Naomi was done we launched into Space day. The kids started off by looking into the VR google cardboard that we have. I downloaded the app Expeditions and found a few VR space themed tours. We actually spent the morning on only on! I also downloaded the app to our iPad and instead of walking around with goggles, you could move around the screen with your hand. They looked at the stars from Earth, learning about the Milky Way, our Moon and comets. Then they looked at different models of the universe. After that learned about satellites and how we know what we know. Then the life of a star. They documented the different parts of what they saw in their field notebook. They also learned about each planet in our solar system and finally our moon and the different phases.

While we ate lunch we watched 2 episodes of Bill Nye that JP found on the Sun and the Moon. After watching the moon episode we did a phases of the moon activity with Oreo cookies. I think this was one of the more fun activities we did today. Needless to say they ate MANY Oreo cookies and had a TON of energy after that they needed to get out. They ran around in the basement for 2 minutes (not sure why they stopped) Anyway when they came back up I was looking to see what the other VR space themes that I downloaded. One of them was an augmented reality app about our solar system. This app put each planet in our house! The kids played with this app all afternoon. They loved being able to pretend to hold it or hide behind it but mostly they loved 'pooping out a planet.' Kids. Are. Strange.
We also discovered the mars rover game and the satellite uplink downlink game from Nasa and the google earth Kennedy space center exploration. Naomi played the satellite game for a while before having her Spanish tutor session via FaceTime. Juliet tried to move the mars lander but it was a bit tricky.
The evening ended with 4 more Bill Nye episodes about comets, meteors, deep space, the planets and gravity. The 90s show brings me back! The kids loved it!! Overall a successful theme day!
