It's Thursday! The one day a week we take time out to explore a specific subject with VR, AR or video streaming links to amazing stuff that people have put out there due to being stuck in side & social distancing! This week we are exploring the
7 wonders of the world - well 7 wonders Mom decided to explore because there is good VR for it!
But before we get to our fun theme day the girls need to do their work for school. Naomi did her 3 must do activities before her google meet began! Juliet watched her video of the day from Stephanie's you tube channel and decided that she wanted to do it! So she went around collecting different shapes to trace. We used water color paper so that once she was done tracing she could paint it. And because she was studying Kandinsky and his concentric circles, she decided to draw her shapes like that. Naomi and I also traced shapes and then painted them with watercolor.

Once we were done with the watercolor we got up and moved and did some yoga. I like to try to do yoga that matches our theme, but I couldn't find anything that was on topic so we did a yoga of a pigeon that went to London. That's the closest I got! It was cute. Then we did Minions yoga. After we were fully stretched and relaxed from our yoga we dove into our work.
The girls began with the
Great Wall of China. They discovered that it was build in 1300s and is 5,500 miles long! JP and I went to the Great Wall when we visited China, so I got out our photos and the kids thought it was cool that we were there, but annoyed that they didn't get to go!

We left China and headed over to Jordan to visit the city of
Petra. The kids enjoyed this site and stayed here exploring for a long time drawing many pictures of what they saw. Then they went to Mexico to
Chichèn Itzá. They liked seeing the different buildings and that the Mayans were astronomers and studied the stars and planets like we did last week! From Mexico we journeyed to Peru to
Machu Picchu. They were less excited about this place and only spent a few minutes looking around here. Then the headed to India to check out the
Taj Mahal. From there we went to Rome to the
colosseum and then to
Egypt to the pyramids. As the afternoon went on the shorter attention span we seemed to have. We didn't spend much time in the last 4 places...but just seeing them was good.
We took a break to make some
Mayan hot chocolate. Basically hot chocolate with cayenne pepper! JP and I had cayenne pepper in ours, but the kids passed. It was good!!
Once they were 'finished' exploring the 7 places I found a Carmen Sandiego VR app where they had to traverse through the ancient places we just learned about looking for her. This was a huge hit. There are 3 other Carmen Sandiego adventures through other places on the VR app that they explored after.

I had to go and do some contract negotiations with school committee, so Dad took over and they searched for Carmen Sandiego on Google Earth and then the girls watched Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego on Netflix. They loved the adventures that they went on searching for her. Dad then made these amazing peanutbutter chocolate cookies.
After my meeting we had leftovers and watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as there were some wonders and national parks featured in this movie! They loved seeing Petra in the end! The girls are having a sleepover tonight in Juliet's room as a special treat as it is a 'school night!'
