Quarantine Day 26: Back to work, math practice, DIY Masks

Naomi working!
Today was my first day back to work!! I had to be 'teaching' in the video chat at 9:40 this morning. So I had plenty of time to get ready. I even set my alarm this morning so I would get up and shower! This is not an every day occurrence in our house any more for any of us!!

JP got up and made his long commute down the hall to sign in to work. Naomi was up early and she got dressed in a very pretty dress and went down stairs. I know it was pretty because she came in and asked me to button the dress and I groggily complied.

Naomi had her school video chat lessons at 9:30 so she was first up to use the laptop that we are all sharing. Juliet has been less than excited about doing her school morning meeting at 9:30 each day so I don't push it. If she wants to do it we do it, but so far most mornings she hasn't wanted to do it.

Today while Naomi got going with her work and video chat Juliet and I did Wizard of Oz cosmic yoga in our bedroom so we wouldn't disturb Naomi. Juliet was very excited about it and I tried to do some of the moves with her. Once 9:40 rolled around I went down to get the laptop from Naomi, who was just finishing up. And log into my first video chat with my Digital Art & Animation class. Naomi went upstairs to do yoga with Juliet.

Today I wanted to just check in with the kids, see how they are doing and catch up. We played the game Just One for a bit of fun, although it seemed like some of them were a bit sleepy still! Then I explained what the weeks work was. I'm trying to make it simple and easy and low stress as I don't know where every kid is at mentally, emotionally and physically with this school closure quarantine stuff we're all dealing with. So for the first week I talked about how artist take this time to create great works to deal with and show case what we are going through and also help us get through this. The kids have to find great works of art that have come about due to this situation. Here are some of the works they found. Here is another classes.

Math practice!
The first class went well and by that I mean I had the room to myself, the other two classes this morning I had helpers. Juliet and Naomi popped in to play Just One or just say hi and sit on my lap. It was fine, as this is the new norm.

Dad made lunch today, toasted PB & J! And we ate out on the front porch as it was sunny and warm. It's supposed to rain the next few days so the more we can be outside the better!! After lunch the kids did the rest of their work for the day. Naomi did her google classroom work and Juliet watched her video from Ms. Stephanie and then did some math facts by rolling dice and then adding them together.

The girls played nicely all day today. This allowed me to have my afternoon classes. Once class was over we walked Pip around the block and then we had a celebration. One of Naomi's classmates birthday was today. One of the parents organized a parade of cars to drive by her house. When we got there the firetruck had just started the parade blowing its sirens. We all drove by her house and waved and said happy birthday! Naomi had a sign for her. It was fun. But driving for me was really uncomfortable. It was the first time that I drove since surgery and I hated every second of it. It was painful. I had to rest a bit once we got home for a bit.
Trying to makeshift a mask out of a cloth napkin!

Once JP was done with work we turned on the news to see if there were any updates on COVID or anything we should know. Nothing new, just stuff about how now we need to be wearing a mask whenever we go out and how to make your own and what material to make it out of and how to properly wear it. All stuff I've seen on the internet....

After the news we went down and made dinner together while the kids played pokemon. We made tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, a fan favorite at our house. The kids had a tub after dinner and I hopped on a conference call school committee meeting. And everyone could hear the kids giggling and squealing at the meeting!! JP had to go close the door to the bathroom so we couldn't hear them!!

After the meeting we had an after-meeting-meeting social call with the school committee peeps. It was again nice to have a social visit with adults and just have a glass of wine and schmooze and complain and laugh.

Snacks while making dinner with the hubby!

Quarantine Day 24: Technology, Fixing Old Things, Long Walks, Family Game Night

Charles River by our old house! Sunday. This morning the kids got up before us and headed downstairs to watch some Batman cartoon episodes from the 90s that JP got for them. Naomi (& Juliet sort of) has been reading the three Batman comics that we got from Park Street Books that have Spanish on the sides and in some of the frames. One of the great things about technology, or at least the technology in our house, is that we can cast stuff from our phone to the TV in the family room and our bedroom. So while JP and I were just getting up and dressed, he cast the Sunday school stream from the temple. This of course interrupted the Batman cartoon. I peaked my head out the bedroom door and heard..."but we were watching Batman!" The Sunday school songs and chat from the Rabbi's today was about Passover as it is this coming Wednesday evening. After the morning service 45 minutes later there was a zoom session with the Rabbi's to have more of a conversation and so...

Quarantine Day 69: meetings, biking, digging for fossils

Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.

Quarantine Day 31: More landscaping and Easter Sunday

Signs of spring Easter Sunday. This morning the kids got up at the same time, around 7:30 and they went down and watched some TV and played some video games. I got up and made some breakfast for the gang and then we headed outside. It was almost 60 degrees today. The girls helped me move some of the plants around in our front flower beds. We moved 2 daisy plants, 2 echinacea plants, and 3 day lilies. The side of the house had nothing in the beds there, so we moved 5 plants there. Hopefully the plants make it!!! Then we did a general clean up of the beds. Juliet got a bit bored and went and helped JP dig out weeds for a bit. Then they went and practiced riding bikes. Juliet is a bit timid on her bike with training wheels but she took the bike for a spin around the neighborhood for a bit. Naomi seeing her decided she wanted to ride for a bit too, so she went off and rode her bike around the neighborhood chasing Jules. She's' still learning how to use the gears on her new bike...
