Yuyuan Gardens or Yu Garden is located in downtown Shanghai. It is a small area with traditional architecture and traditional gardens. All of the walks were zig zag and the reason being is that evil spirits can only travel in straight lines, so if the path was jagged, the evil spirits would not be able to get into the gardens. This place was VERY crowded. Here we walked along the stone paths enjoying this beautiful little spot amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. The garden was also maze like, each time you walked around a corner or down a path or through a door way there was yet another garden area and another wonderfully designed house. Each house had different kinds of Ming or Qing furniture. Some rooms were set up as sitting rooms while others were set up with tables to dine. The students sat and fed the koi fish for a while, I sat and enjoyed the sun and the unique environment, although I wish I had thought to bring my sketchbook as there were so many things I would have loved to draw that we do not have at home. Next time.
Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.
