Din Tai Fung. Remember this name. This restaurant serves the BEST dumplings in the whole world. I know this is a bold statement to make, and I am not a dumpling connoisseur, however these dumplings were 'off the hook.'
I ventured to the area of Xiantiandi the other night to try out these famous dumplings at Din Tai Fung. One of the great things about eating alone is that you NEVER have to wait for a table. I was seated right away, while others waited for hours! The menu was not only in English, it had pictures for EVERYTHING they served! It was fantstic. I ordered chicken dumplings, spinach & garlic sauce and won tong soup with pork and shrimp dumplings. I wanted to get the greenbeans (looked like the ones from the Chinese Tea House back home mom), but they were all out! [Note: tong in Chinese means soup, so when we say won tong soup we are really asking for won soup soup!] When the dumplings came, they came in this crazy basket and were very hot! (see photo) The dumplings were melt in your mouth wonderful. Seriously, they melted in your mouth. The were so delicious! I should have got more, but I could barely finish the dumplings and the soup!
They have a restaurant in the states, so if any of you are ever in L.A., I'd suggest you go to this fantastic restaurant!!
