Shanghai is like any other major city. There is lots of traffic, lots of pedestrians and lots of cool little shops. The pictures here are of a typical street in Shanghai around 5pm. Its overrun with bicycles & mopeds, which apparently don't have to pay attention to any of the rules of the road. They turn right on red without stopping, they turn left on red without stopping, they go through red lights all the time, and pedestrians better watch out or they will get run over!! Some streets do not allow bicycles or mopeds on them, so they just drive on the sidewalk instead. The second photo above is of a one way street. The cars are coming at us (and some bike riders) the yellow line on the right is for bicycles and mopeds to go in the opposite direction of traffic. So even though it is a one way road, you must look both ways before crossing!
The last photo is of the art room here at Shanghai No. 2 High School. (This is not a typical classroom, I will take a picture of that and post it later.) Here the students do not have to take art. Art is only offered on Tuesday afternoons for 80 minutes. Students can learn to draw or paint if they choose to do so. There are two art teachers at the school and two art classes from what I can understand - drawing or painting. They do not have ceramics or pottery, which I was surprised at because it is such a Chinese art form, I mean after all clay (porcelain a.k.a. china) was first discovered here!
