Rain again today. I've gotten quite used to the rain at this point, so I made my plans and headed out across the river to explore Pudong (which means East of the River). I started there because they had a really good looking restaurant that served a good hearty American style breakfast! So I took a taxi to the Shanghai World Financial Center building. This building is just like the Prudential Center where there are office, shops, restaurants and an observation deck. First I headed to breakfast where I got blueberry pancakes and a coffee with breakfast and my god it was the coffee huge! (see photo above) This was the first cup of coffee I've had since I got here, so 2 weeks! After breakfast I wandered around the SWFC and was thinking about going to the observation deck which boasts the tallest in the world at 100 stories. However, the visibility was not so great (see above photos!). So I decided to come back on a clear day.
From Pudong I went back to Puxi (west of the river) and headed to the 'fake market.' In this building there are 4 floors of madness, I mean vendors that are selling everything you can imagine from fake gucci bags to fake uggs, to abercrombie to traditional chinese 'silk' clothes. The vendors are VERY pushy, and you can bargain hard with them as they REALLY want your money! I could only stand this place for a few shops, then I had to get out of there!
I headed to the Shanghai Art Museum, which was just a block away in People's Square. The museum wasn't as large as I had thought, but the exhibits were great. My favorite exhibit was by Marlene Tseng Yu. Her exhibit was "Forces of Nature and the Green Movement in Art." All her works were large scale, acrylic on canvas. They were truly amazing to look at! I sat on one of the benches in the museum gaping at the paintings, and wondering how she got the paint to do that! Finally I headed out and headed home to rest because being a tourist is so exhausting!
