Thursday. Today was the first day of 'summer vacation' for the girls. And it was pretty much similar to the 'remote learning' time we had just finished up. The kids got up and cleaned their rooms. JP and I walked Pip and then made breakfast and then our cleaning lady showed up. She starts upstairs and so everyone was working/playing downstairs. After breakfast the kids went outside. They played in the neighborhood, biked, swam, argued, made up, ate lunch, jumped on trampolines, swung on the swing, and then did it all over again! It seems like the kids in the neighborhood are becoming fast friends!
JP set up outside until it got way to hot to be outside! I had a few meetings. In between meetings I went and found the kids in the neighborhood to make sure they were ok. The chickens free ranged outside all day in the back yard. We set them up in the shade by the deck and they stayed there all day. They liked chillin' under the deck! A few times I forgot they were out there and went back just to check in on them and make sure they weren't eaten by a hawk! They all survived.
I've been doing research on buying a coop but everyone is either sold out, won't be ready for 6-12 weeks or super expensive. JP and I planned on building the coop. We found one we liked and he bought the plans to DIY. Upon reading the list of materials and cost of $1900 we thought we could find one for sale much cheaper! Seems to be a run on coops! So we're still trying to figure out what to do. If our land wasn't so darn terrible to dig with all the rocks and terrible soil I might still do it, but the thought of having to dig and level the land where we want it to go is so daunting....
It finally cooled down when the sun set so we dined al fresco on the deck for dinner. It was nice. The kids took a tub before books and bed. JP and I finished the evening by doing work out on the deck with the nice weather and fun lights. Not sure how long it will last like this before bugs drive us inside.
