Sunday. This morning we got up early and made a big breakfast and then loaded up the car with bikes and snacks, sunscreen and water bottles and headed to the Cape Cod Canal for a bike ride and fishing trip. And good thing we did because it was 87 degrees at 9am when we walked Pip! Hot and sticky in Millis.
The canal was cool and breezy. It was misty when we arrived but it soon cleared up. Nana and Baba met us and we biked for a half a mile and then pulled over for the father's to fish for a bit. We set up a blanket in the shade where Nana and I hung out while the kids climbed the rocks and the men fished. After a little bit we packed up and biked a bit further on. 4 miles on actually. We finally stopped at the Herring Run and Visitor center because Juliet was tired! We set up in the shade again with a picnic blanket and some chairs and had some snacks and water. After our bellies were full, Nana, JP and Naomi biked on to the end of the canal road - 3 more miles! Baba, Juliet and I hung out and rested on the picnic blanket in the sun, and watched the canal for fish jumping.
Eventually Nana, JP and Naomi caught back up with us and just in time as Nana got a flat tire a few feet away from where we were waiting for them! So Baba and I biked back to get the cars and load up the bikes of the tired plus the broken! We rode into the wind and it was tough, but we got back to the cars and headed to pick the weary bikers up. After loading up the bikes we headed back over to the train bridge area where we had originally parked and got take out Thai food for dinner. We then headed home to let Pip out! The kids were tired and Juliet started getting grouchy. We got them showered and ready for bed as quickly as we could. Naomi got sunburnt on her back but the rest of us were ok. We did put on sun screen but she is the fairest of us so I should've reapplied her sunscreen at least once more!
Yesterday (Saturday) was day 100 of quarantine. I wanted to do something fun and special but after picking up the produce and running around trying to find sprinkler toys for the kids with no luck I was hot and tired and ended up getting a migraine and sleeping all afternoon. So it wasn't eventful but maybe the migraine says it all about this quarantine and the way we're all feeling about it!
I think I'm going to take a break from the blog for a bit now that summer is here and we don't have many plans at this point and home schooling is over. It seems like each day we'll be playing it by ear to occupy the kids. And when I say we I really mean me...I'll be playing it by ear to occupy the kids! JP will be working all day from home still and my summer work is up in the air... and camp is cancelled. So camp Mom for a bit at this point.
