Quarantine Day 19: Virtual Meetings, Pip gets a bath, & spending the day outside!

Making energy bites!
Today we all had a bit of a late start, except for Juliet. She came in early, not sure what time, crawled in bed and snuggled for a bit, then left an went downstairs and worked on several puzzles. Naomi rolled out of bed at 8:45 and so did JP and I!!! I am so getting used to sleeping in and no morning commute and no morning craziness to catch the bus!!

We made breakfast and Naomi had to eat it while she was in her Zoom meeting with her teacher! Today she had to write things down, listen to the story and answer questions. While Naomi was doing this, Juliet and I made energy bites from a recipe she made with Ms. Jess in her cooking class this past fall. Then it was Juliet's turn to have her morning meeting on Zoom. After the kids meetings we did our usual walk Pip and check in on our plants. The bugs were dead for the most part this morning, just a few stragglers still alive. We sprayed them with the soapy water and here's hoping we got them all. The radishes are still doing well. Nothing else is growing really yet.

Mom's work meeting.
Then it was Mom's turn to have a virtual meeting. Today there was a department meeting that I wanted to attend to see what is going on as I am going 'back to work' this coming Monday. This meeting lasted about an hour. During this time the kids were doing yoga and then when that was over they went down the basement and played nicely together until lunch time.

Lunch al fresco
As it was so nice out today we ate lunch outside on the front porch and pretty much stayed outside the rest of the day! The kids brought out puzzles and games to play out in the sun. Around 2pm there was a faculty meeting that I attended to hear what is going on at work next week and the kids played nicely for the most part during this. This has been a sneak peak as to what life will look like with mom also working from home next week. I'm not sure how I'm going to get the kids to do some 'academic' work while I too am working. But hopefully it will be ok. We've set up a few routines that we have been sticking to and hopefully this will carry over while I am working!

Tutor session with Ms. Bea
The kids didn't get much academic time in the rest of the day, but the did get lots of fresh air, sun and worked on other skills, like sharing, good sportsmanship, using their imagination, telling stories, taking care of their pet, team building, physical activity, etc. And even though they did all these things, I still feel guilty that we didn't do any math or writing or reading! (We did reading before bed as we always do).

In the late afternoon Naomi had her first virtual tutoring session with her Spanish tutor today. They were on the iPad for an hour playing games in Spanish and conversing away! It was fun for her to see her friend Will too! She gave Bea and will a tour of our house in Spanish and learned some new words too!

Then it was more or less the typical end of day routine. Walk the dog, make dinner, kids play while we make dinner, eat dinner, play a game after dinner, make an awesome dessert, pajamas, brush teeth, books and bed!

Tonight I think we're going to skip the MCU movie as JP wanted to watch the live stream of the Phish show that happens every Tuesday during the shutdown! Plus this gives me time to get my teaching stuff together for next week. We're moving forward with curriculum work and I need to be on top of it so I can do both teach my students and my own children and maintain some type of sanity next week!

Quarantine Day 24: Technology, Fixing Old Things, Long Walks, Family Game Night

Charles River by our old house! Sunday. This morning the kids got up before us and headed downstairs to watch some Batman cartoon episodes from the 90s that JP got for them. Naomi (& Juliet sort of) has been reading the three Batman comics that we got from Park Street Books that have Spanish on the sides and in some of the frames. One of the great things about technology, or at least the technology in our house, is that we can cast stuff from our phone to the TV in the family room and our bedroom. So while JP and I were just getting up and dressed, he cast the Sunday school stream from the temple. This of course interrupted the Batman cartoon. I peaked my head out the bedroom door and heard..."but we were watching Batman!" The Sunday school songs and chat from the Rabbi's today was about Passover as it is this coming Wednesday evening. After the morning service 45 minutes later there was a zoom session with the Rabbi's to have more of a conversation and so...

Quarantine Day 69: meetings, biking, digging for fossils

Today was a typical quarantine day. We got up. Walked Pip. Made breakfast. And then JP and I got to working while the kids played outside. It was a gorgeous day. The kids went on a fossil expedition digging up rocks in my front flower bed. They apparently promised to leave the flowerbeds as they found them. But that’s not what happened. Then they played in the hose as it was hot out! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with the kids in the neighborhood. In the evening we walked Pip and went over to the neighbors that was hatching Chickens. He’s going to let us foster a few of them for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will move us forward with us getting our own chickens! So after the chick visit we went out and got a few things to raise them. A heat lamp, a water bottle, sawdust flakes and chick food. Tomorrow we pick up the chicks. Then dinner, books and bed for the kids. And school Committee Meeting for mom.

Quarantine Day 31: More landscaping and Easter Sunday

Signs of spring Easter Sunday. This morning the kids got up at the same time, around 7:30 and they went down and watched some TV and played some video games. I got up and made some breakfast for the gang and then we headed outside. It was almost 60 degrees today. The girls helped me move some of the plants around in our front flower beds. We moved 2 daisy plants, 2 echinacea plants, and 3 day lilies. The side of the house had nothing in the beds there, so we moved 5 plants there. Hopefully the plants make it!!! Then we did a general clean up of the beds. Juliet got a bit bored and went and helped JP dig out weeds for a bit. Then they went and practiced riding bikes. Juliet is a bit timid on her bike with training wheels but she took the bike for a spin around the neighborhood for a bit. Naomi seeing her decided she wanted to ride for a bit too, so she went off and rode her bike around the neighborhood chasing Jules. She's' still learning how to use the gears on her new bike...
