Saturday.
It's a bit weird because we're not leaving the house so all the days feel like 'home days' as my kids call them. Saturday and Sunday were typically 'home days' and Monday - Friday were 'School Days.' Now that we are pretty much confined to our home, they all seem like home days! Even when we are at 'mom school,' it still feels like a home day, because we roll with things. If its nice out, we spend the whole day outside instead of sticking to our 'school schedule.' Its just an all day long P.E. class on those days. And its great. But then their is the weekend. The weekends are weird because we're all home still. So we are trying to make it different than those school days. We let the kids get up and watch tv, which we don't let them do on school days. This allows us to sleep in too!
Today JP and I rolled out of bed around 9:00 and made 'second breakfast' for the kids. While eating breakfast we played 'too many monkeys' a family favorite. This game can last a while though, and while we were all finished with breakfast a long time before the Juliet won, it was a fun game we can all play. This has become a mealtime norm. When we have lunch during the week, JP has lunch with us and we play a game or two while eating before he has to 'go back to work' and we go back to 'school.' As annoying as this quarantine is, I think that it has brought us closer together as a family. Naomi and Juliet are closer than ever, playing together, and yes fighting, but also playing amazingly well together, because they are the only friends they can have over right now.
Today after breakfast we went over to Rocky Woods in Medfield to go on a hike before the rain came. It is supposed to rain for the next week so we decided that an outdoor activity was best for today. As we got to the parking area we noticed many cars parked along the side of the street. The gate was closed and it said the area was closed to visitors. Well that didn't seem to stop all the people that parked along the side of the road from taking a hike today, so we decided that we could too! We hiked for 2.5 hours along the trails in the woods. We ended up hiking 3.5 miles when it was all said and done! We found cool trails with rocks and trees we had to traverse, we had to hop over little streams with tadpoles in them and we even found a story path that had pages of a book along the way. The kids took turns reading the story - 'Those Damn Squirrels' which is totally about the girls Baba. He's not a fan of squirrels. At. All.
After the hike we got home and mom had to lay down and rest as she was exhausted! The Naomi played games with JP while mom rested. And Juliet even took a little nap on the couch too. When dinner was ready Juliet came up to wake me up and we had a few minutes to paint together before dinner was actually ready! While we ate dinner we watched the new movie Onward by Disney & Pixar. It is still in theaters right now but as everyone is quarantined and not going out to movie theaters Disney released this (and other) movie on their streaming Disney + channel early! It was a cute movie about elves and magic and just what we needed to escape after the crazy stuff going on in the world right now. At the end the kids said they wished magic was real and I don't blame them! It would be so much better if it was! Easier to clean up and make dinner and have wonderful quests! And probably easier to get rid of COVID - 19.
